A man from Sanaur village in Patiala district caused panic on Wednesday night after setting his own house on fire.
The accused, identified as Balbir, allegedly started the fire after his family refused to give him money. He is known in the area for drug addiction and troubling behaviour.
Eyewitnesses said Balbir got into a heated argument with his family, then locked himself inside the house and set it ablaze.
Neighbours quickly informed the fire department, which arrived in time and managed to control the fire before it could spread to nearby homes.
Locals say they had warned Balbir several times in the past, but his behaviour reportedly remained unpredictable.
