Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has criticized the media for its treatment of Rhea Chakraborty during the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in 2020, demanding a public apology for the intense scrutiny and media trial that Chakraborty endured. In an Instagram story, Dia wrote, “Who in the media will have the grace to put out a written apology to Rhea Chakraborty and her family? You went on a witch hunt. You caused deep anguish and harassment just for TRPs. Apologise. That’s the very least you can do.”
Her remarks follow the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) decision to close its investigation into the allegations surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. On March 22, the CBI filed two closure reports, clearing Rhea and her family of any involvement. One report dismissed allegations made by Sushant’s father against Rhea, while the other rejected Rhea’s claims against Sushant’s family.
After nearly four years of investigation, the CBI found no evidence suggesting that anyone was responsible for driving Sushant to suicide. AIIMS forensic experts also concluded that his death was a suicide and not murder.
Rhea Chakraborty faced severe public backlash following Sushant’s death, and in September 2020, she was arrested on drug-related charges, spending 28 days in Mumbai’s Byculla Jail before being granted bail. Sushant was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020.
