Even though the southwest monsoon officially arrived in the region on Sunday, residents of Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula continued to face hot and humid conditions on Monday. Temperatures rose again after a brief dip, leaving many disappointed as the much-awaited rain failed to bring relief.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, the city saw its maximum temperature climb by 1.6°C, reaching 35.6°C at the Sector 39 observatory and 35.8°C at the IAF airport station. This is nearly 2°C above normal for this time of year. The minimum temperature also rose slightly to 28.4°C, making Sunday night particularly warm.

While Chandigarh remained dry, only traces of rain were reported in Mohali and Panchkula, which added to the already high humidity levels. Panchkula remained the coolest spot in the tricity, while Chandigarh was the hottest.

Despite the dry start to the week, weather officials have reissued a yellow alert for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. An orange alert—indicating a higher likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall—has been issued for Thursday.

The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of thunderstorms and rain in the tricity area until June 28. Maximum temperatures are predicted to stay below 35°C for the next five days, bringing hope for cooler days ahead.

June 10 remains the hottest day of the season so far, with a scorching 44°C recorded in the region.
