Delhi Launches PC & PNDT Online Portal to Combat Female Foeticide

Delhi’s Health Minister, Pankaj Kumar Singh, launched the PC & PNDT Online Portal on Friday to improve the monitoring of ultrasound technology and prevent its misuse for sex determination, which is often linked to female foeticide.

During the launch, Singh highlighted the deep-rooted issue of sex determination in India, particularly in Delhi, the nation’s capital. He emphasized that Delhi must set an example in eradicating this practice. “I am confident this initiative will improve Delhi’s sex ratio and strengthen efforts to combat gender-based discrimination,” said Singh. He also instructed officials to take strict action on complaints submitted through the portal and ensure accountability.

The new portal will replace manual procedures for registering, permitting, and filing complaints related to sex determination of fetuses. It also offers essential services, such as online submission of Form F by ultrasound clinics, a system for the public to file complaints, and real-time updates on the compliance status of diagnostic centers.

Singh also pointed out that 627 inspections were conducted in 2024-25, resulting in 70 show-cause notices, 13 suspensions, 53 cancellations, and the sealing of 22 ultrasound machines. Legal actions and decoy operations have also been implemented to curb illegal practices.

The portal aims to strengthen the government’s ability to regulate diagnostic centers more effectively. In addition to this initiative, the Delhi government has ramped up awareness campaigns under the ‘Beti Utsav’ program, including advertisements and community outreach efforts, to promote the value of the girl child.
