Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Launches Babasaheb Ambedkar Educational Tour for School Students

Marking the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Delhi ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ Rekha Gupta on Monday launched the Babasaheb Ambedkar Educational Tour Programme for school students. The initiative will allow students from ਸਰਕਾਰ schools to visit key sites associated with Ambedkar’s life, such as the Mahaparinirvan Sthal in Alipur and the Babasaheb Ambedkar International Centre, on guided educational tours.

Speaking at an event at Shah Auditorium, the ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ said, “His legacy is not just something to study — it’s a way of life.” She emphasised that the aim of the tours is to inspire students with Ambedkar’s ideals of equality, justice, and nation-building.

The Delhi ਸਰਕਾਰ also kicked off a 15-day awareness campaign across schools, including special assemblies and educational activities highlighting Ambedkar’s contributions. Gupta further announced the revival of skill-based education programmes and startup support schemes for marginalised communities.

As part of the tribute, assistive devices such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, and learning kits were distributed to specially-abled children under the Sugamya Sahayak Yojana, and several students were felicitated for their achievements in the arts.

CM Gupta also paid floral tributes at various locations including Prerna Sthal in Haiderpur, Delhi Legislative Assembly, and Mahaparinirvan Sthal in Alipur, accompanied by Cabinet ਮੰਤਰੀ Ravinder Indraj Singh, ਮੁੱਖ Secretary Dharmendra, and other senior officials.

She criticised past governments for only using Ambedkar’s name symbolically, stating that “under Prime ਮੰਤਰੀ Modi’s leadership, his vision is being implemented meaningfully,” referring to efforts like the Ambedkar Centres of Excellence, the BHIM app, and development of the five ‘Panchteerth’ sites linked to his life.

Reaffirming her ਸਰਕਾਰ’s commitment to Ambedkar’s vision, Gupta said, “It is because of the rights Babasaheb secured for women that I stand here ਅੱਜ as Delhi’s ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ.” She concluded by stating that Ambedkar belongs to all Indians, not just one political party or group.

The day concluded with cultural performances and a renewed pledge by the Delhi ਸਰਕਾਰ to uphold Ambedkar’s values in both policy and practice.
