Deepika Padukone Talks About India’s Oscar Snubs, Celebrates RRR’s Historic Win

Deepika Padukone recently shared her thoughts on the lack of recognition for Indian films at the Oscars, expressing her belief that many deserving movies and talents have been “robbed” of their due acknowledgment by the Academy.

In a video posted to her Instagram, Deepika, seen preparing for a Louis Vuitton show in Paris, reflected on her experience at the 2023 Academy Awards when RRR won the Oscar for Best Original Song for “Naatu Naatu.” She recalled the emotional moment, noting how despite having no personal connection to the film, she felt a deep sense of pride and joy for the recognition.

“India has been robbed of the Oscars many times. Many, many deserving movies, I feel, have been snubbed. Whether it’s movies or talent,” Deepika said. “But I remember being in the audience when they announced RRR, and I got emotional. That was a huge, huge moment. That felt very, very personal.”

She also spoke about this year’s Oscars, mentioning that one win that stood out for her was Adrien Brody’s Best Actor victory for The Brutalist. As she shared her thoughts, clips of critically acclaimed Indian films, including All We Imagine As Light, Laapataa Ladies, Tumbbad, and The Lunchbox, were featured in the video, highlighting the global acclaim these films received but were not nominated for an Oscar.

Deepika attended the Louis Vuitton show at the Cour Carre du Louvre, marking another milestone as she became the first Indian to be signed as a global ambassador for both Louis Vuitton and Cartier.
