It is obvious that the power situation will worsen over the following three or four days because the report states that there are no indications that the temperature will drop over the next few days. The demand for electricity in the state has been steadily rising for the past three or four days.

“More than 8500 megawatts of electricity has to be bought from the central pool.”

The state’s electrical demand typically remains at 10,000 megawatts until the end of September, but this year it has increased significantly as a result of rising temperatures and humidity. The demand for electricity hit 13,214 megawatts on Sunday. The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited had to purchase about 8500 megawatts of electricity from the central pool in order to meet this demand.

“Punjab’s electricity generation is only up to four thousand megawatts.”

Punjab’s power plants have the capacity to produce up to 6500 megawatts of electricity. However, the state only generates about 4000 megawatts of electricity overall these days. Government thermal plants are producing roughly 1400 megawatts, whereas private thermal plants are producing about 2000 megawatts.
