Death Row Convict Escapes from Chandigarh Hospital: Pushed Police, Threw off Handcuffs; Had Raped and Murdered a 5-Year-Old Girl.

After assaulting the police officers, the death row inmate who was serving his sentence managed to get out from a Chandigarh hospital. Additionally, the accused removed his handcuffs. The culprit in this case is currently being sought by the Chandigarh Police and the Punjab Police.

A 5-year-old girl was raped and killed by the accused, Sonu, a citizen of Uttar Pradesh. In the case, the Ludhiana court had given him a death sentence. He was brought to the GMCH Hospital in Chandigarh for an examination by the Punjab Police.

Sonu Came to Ludhiana Jail for Treatment: Sonu Singh, 29, the accused, was born and raised in Desai village in the Uttar Pradesh district of Fatehpur. Sonu is incarcerated at Ludhiana Central Jail on a death sentence. The defendant has been sick for a while.

Sonu, the culprit, was taken to GMCH-32 in Chandigarh on Monday for treatment after the Punjab Police gave him an excuse to use the restroom. The police officers keeping an eye on him escorted him to the restroom once more at around twelve o’clock in the evening. Then he made up a reason to use the restroom.

Pushed Police Officers and Escaped: Sonu took advantage of the moment when the police brought him to the restroom, pushed the officers, and ran away. The hospital was in disarray after this. The culprits are currently being sought by Chandigarh Police and Punjab Police.

Undiscovered Body beneath the Bed Following Rape
Sonu was given a death sentence and a fine of five and a half lakh rupees ($550,000 INR) by the Ludhiana court in March 2025. On December 28, 2023, Sonu was charged with enticing a five-year-old girl with chocolate, calling her into his room, raping her, and killing her. He then ran away after hiding the body inside the bed’s box.

CCTV footage revealed the girl traveling with Sonu when the authorities looked into her disappearance. The police found the girl’s body beneath the bed since the room was locked. Sonu Singh was given the death penalty by the court based on the evidence and DNA report.
