Crackdown on Food Vendors in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar: 15 Samples Taken, 5 Fined

In an effort to tackle food safety violations, the Food Safety Teams in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar have taken 15 samples and issued five challans over the past three days. This action follows the discovery of rotten vegetables and unsanitary conditions in food vendors’ kitchens, particularly those selling Chinese fast food in the Mataur area.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal stated that 40 kg of rotten vegetables, stale noodles, and substandard sauces were destroyed during the inspections to prevent them from being sold to consumers. She also emphasized that food safety teams have been directed to monitor the transportation of food items like chicken and milk through random checkpoints.

The inspections, which have taken place across Kharar, Mataur, Zirakpur, and Kurali, have led to the collection of several food samples, including momos and spring rolls. In addition to the destruction of substandard food, multiple food vendors were fined for operating in unhygienic conditions. In Zirakpur, three samples were taken during nighttime inspections, and vendors transporting chicken into the city were also checked.

District Health Officer Dr. Amrit Warring urged the public to be cautious when purchasing food from roadside vendors and eateries, reminding consumers to be vigilant about food quality. Inspections will continue regularly to ensure compliance with hygiene standards and protect public health.
