The ਪੰਜਾਬ and Haryana High Court has told the ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ not to take any action against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, until April 22. This order is linked to a ਪੁਲਿਸ case filed against him after he said in a TV interview, “50 bombs have reached ਪੰਜਾਬ, out of which 18 were used.”
The court, led by Justice Deepak Gupta, also told Bajwa to cooperate with the ਪੁਲਿਸ investigation. The case will be heard again on April 22. Until then, Bajwa is not allowed to talk about the case in the media.
The ਪੁਲਿਸ filed the FIR (First Information Report) after a cyber cell constable complained that Bajwa’s statement could create fear and disturb peace. Bajwa’s lawyer, APS Deol, said the case is politically motivated and is meant to silence his client. He also argued that the ਪੁਲਿਸ should have done a basic inquiry before filing the case.
However, the state ਸਰਕਾਰ said that for serious crimes, a preliminary inquiry is not required. They also said Bajwa’s words could create communal tension in the state.
The court has not given a final decision yet, and a detailed order is expected soon. Bajwa claims he is being targeted by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ਸਰਕਾਰ for speaking out about law and order issues.
