Today, Congress leaders held a protest outside the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation headquarters. They raised strong slogans against the Punjab Government and the Corporation blaming them for the city’s ongoing problems.
Congress MLA Bawa Henry led the protest. He said that two months ago they had locked the Corporation office to demand better services. At that time, officials promised improvements, but nothing has changed.
Henry said that the people of Jalandhar are still suffering from issues like dirty drinking water, poor sewer systems, broken street lights, and garbage on the roads. He called the Municipal Corporation a ‘den of corruption’ and said the situation has only become worse.
According to Henry, earlier they believed that corruption was limited to the Improvement Trust, but now it seems even worse in the Municipal Corporation. He blamed the Commissioner and the Mayor for encouraging corruption despite being informed about the problems.
He also said that even when it doesn’t rain, many areas in the city still get flooded. Places like Ram Nagar, Gaji Gulla, Bachint Nagar and Reru are facing this issue for over a year. Congress leaders said they have approached many officials but no one has provided a solution.
The protest was a call for action and accountability from the authorities.
