Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira Backs Bikram Majithia, Calls Vigilance Raid “Political Vendetta”

Congress leader and MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has come out in support of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia after a Punjab Vigilance Bureau team raided Majithia’s house in Amritsar on Wednesday.

In a video shared on his official Facebook page, Khaira strongly criticised the raid. He called it an act of political revenge and expressed worry about the growing misuse of police power in Punjab.

“I strongly condemn the raid on Bikram Majithia, which seems to be driven by political vendetta. Punjab is starting to look like a police state,” Khaira said.

Majithia, who is already under investigation in a 2021 drug case, claimed that around 30 officers entered his home without any prior notice. His wife, Akali MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia, also said that the family was not informed about the reason for the raid.

Shortly after the raid, Majithia posted a video on X (formerly Twitter), accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government of trying to silence him through false charges.

“Bhagwant Mann ji, no matter how many FIRs you file, I will not be afraid, and your government cannot suppress my voice,” Majithia said in the video.

He added that he has always spoken out for the people of Punjab and would continue to do so despite the pressure.

The political reaction to the raid continues to grow, with leaders across party lines now questioning the government’s actions.
