waste has accumulated throughout Amritsar, Punjab, since the company in charge of waste collection disappeared. People’s homes are not having their garbage cleaned up on time. The marketplaces and alleys are piled high with trash. Infuriated by this, Congress Councillor Mintu Madan went live at night to criticise Mayor Moti Bhatia of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the trash and filth in his ward.
The councillor demonstrated the area’s squalor in the video and claimed that although Mayor Moti Bhatia travels this route daily, no cleaning has ever been done. Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma arrived with a group of municipal corporation workers to do the cleaning within two hours of the video going viral.
“He also failed to make the neighbourhood better while serving as a councillor. He is also doing nothing in his capacity as mayor today. Garbage and contaminated water are major issues in the area. The water in Ward Number 26, owned by Mayor Moti Bhatia, is contaminated. He just takes pictures and goes since the situation is so dire. The residents of the Sharifpura region are furious. They were unable to install even one manhole cover.
At 12 AM, Priyanka Sharma completed the cleaning.
After watching this video, Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma sent a municipal crew to Husainpura and the neighboring regions to finish the cleaning. They arrived in Sharifpura by 12 AM and got to work cleaning. Priyanka Sharma claimed that although she had messaged Councillor Mintu Madan, he had arrived independently. She was curious about how the place was cleaned in the morning.
