On Tuesday, Maharashtra ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ Devendra Fadnavis invited Tesla to consider building its research and manufacturing facilities in the state. He made this statement while attending the opening of Tesla’s first Experience Centre in ਭਾਰਤ, located at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
“We want Tesla to do research and manufacturing in ਭਾਰਤ,” Fadnavis said. “Maharashtra is ready to be your partner in this journey.”
The ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ said Tesla’s decision to open its first centre in Mumbai shows the company’s trust in the ਸ਼ਹਿਰ and state. He praised Mumbai as ਭਾਰਤ’s financial, business, and innovation hub.
“Mumbai stands for innovation and sustainability,” he said. “Tesla is not just a car company; it represents design, innovation, and a greener future.”
Fadnavis also shared a memory from 2015 when he rode in a Tesla car during a US visit. “At that time, I hoped such cars would come to ਭਾਰਤ. It took nearly 10 years, but we’re happy Tesla is finally here,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Tesla will find a strong market in ਭਾਰਤ. “ਲੋਕ are waiting eagerly. Once deliveries begin, ਭਾਰਤ could become one of your best markets,” he added.
The CM also highlighted Maharashtra’s support for electric vehicles (EVs), saying the state offers:

He said this new beginning could help change the Indian EV market.
Tesla’s ਭਾਰਤ Moves So Far:
Tesla has reportedly imported its first batch of cars — Model Y SUVs — from China.
In June, the company rented a 24,565 sq. ft warehouse in Lodha Logistics Park, Mumbai, for five years.
However, Union ਮੰਤਰੀ H.D. Kumaraswamy recently said that Tesla is more interested in showrooms than car manufacturing in ਭਾਰਤ.
Despite this, the Maharashtra ਸਰਕਾਰ remains hopeful that Tesla will choose the state as its production base in the future.
