Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday took a strong dig at traditional political parties, accusing them of keeping people stuck in the fight for basic needs like clean sewerage and village infrastructure, while they chased personal gains.
While inaugurating a new tehsil complex at Dudhan Sadha in Sanaur, CM Mann delivered a 34-minute speech filled with stories, jokes, and strong remarks against political rivals. He said that for over 70 years, earlier governments focused on small village issues like raising cremation ground walls instead of solving larger problems.
-“People were not allowed to think beyond basic needs for decades,” said Mann, adding that his government has started real reforms, especially in education.
He said parents are now enrolling their children in government schools instead of private ones. “Our children are scoring above 99% and passing competitive exams,” he claimed proudly.
Without naming anyone directly, Mann also took a veiled jab at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Badal. He said, “Those who misused donations are now suffering one fracture after another,” clearly hinting at political leaders from the past.
He accused the Badal family of turning the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) into a money-making body, calling it “Shiromani Golak Prabandhak Committee” — a sarcastic play on words implying greed.
Mann also remembered how, when he was in 7th grade, he wrote a letter on behalf of his village to then MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa asking for a bridge over a seasonal stream. That bridge, he said, only got built when he himself became an MP — a sign of long-standing neglect.
Unexpected Rush at Liquor Shop
Just before the CM’s rally, a liquor shop near the venue saw an unusual crowd. Intelligence officers noticed it and ordered police to shut the shop before Mann arrived. But by then, the shop had already sold out all its stock.
Meanwhile, about 300 buses filled with AAP supporters reached the rally. Many of these were PRTC buses, and due to their diversion, many passengers at Patiala bus stand were left waiting with no transport.
