The new fruit and vegetable market in Jalalabad, Fazilka, which was built for about three and a quarter crore rupees, has become the subject of a dispute. The merchants selling fruits and vegetables from carts under the old grain market shed were instructed by the authorities to move to the new market. Nevertheless, a number of vendors began to demonstrate against this ruling.

The mood grew tense throughout the protest, and there was even a fight between the street sellers and the police officers who showed up. The cops evicted the demonstrators as the situation worsened.

In reality, the goal of building a separate market for street vendors was to lessen traffic and disturbances in the city. It is said that the newly constructed shed has all the amenities. Those who set up their carts under the former grain market’s shed are still complaining, even though many merchants have already moved there.
