During a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting ਅੱਜ, party president Mallikarjun Kharge said the Opposition fully supports the ਸਰਕਾਰ in responding to the Pahalgam terror attack. But soon after, Congress leader and former ਪੰਜਾਬ CM Charanjit Singh Channi again asked for proof of the surgical strikes carried out after the 2019 Pulwama attack.
Although Channi later took back his statement, the BJP strongly criticized him and the Congress party. Several BJP leaders accused Congress of insulting the armed forces and creating doubts about their bravery.
At a press conference after the CWC meeting, Channi said it had been 10 days since the Pahalgam attack, but the ਸਰਕਾਰ had not taken any strong action. He claimed cancelling visas and putting the Indus Waters Treaty on hold were not enough.
BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan reminded that in 2024, Channi had also called the army’s sacrifice in Poonch “stuntbaazi.” He accused Channi of disrespecting the military again.
Channi also challenged the ਸਰਕਾਰ by referring to PM Modi’s “56-inch chest” remark, saying ਲੋਕ were waiting for strong action against Pakistan and expecting real results.
