Chandigarh Constable Caught in Furlough Scam; Two DSPs Under Investigation

A big issue has come up in Chandigarh Police involving Constable Yudhveer. He was supposed to be on furlough (leave) but his wife has said he was still marked present on duty. She complained to the former DGP Surendra Yadav, saying that Yudhveer stayed only five days a month in Chandigarh and spent the rest of the time in his village.

His mobile phone location showed that he was in Mahendragarh, Rewari and parts of Rajasthan not in Chandigarh  even when his attendance was marked. He was also working as a PSO (personal security officer) with two senior DSPs during his leave. Now these DSPs may also be questioned.

The current DGP, Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, has taken the issue seriously and ordered an investigation. He has said clearly that no one breaking rules will be spared.

This matter has been under investigation for over seven months but so far only Yudhveer’s mobile location has been traced. Usually police cases are completed within 90 days but this one is moving very slowly.

In the past a woman officer had already submitted a confidential report about similar issues in the PCR department. That report said some officers were letting constables go on leave while still marking them present — and taking money for it. Some staff were even punished after a departmental inquiry.

Now with Yudhveer’s case the issue has come up again. The police department is being pushed to take strict action against all involved.
