Chandigarh Airport Closure for Maintenance
This news relates to the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Chandigarh/Mohali:
- Closure Period: From October 26 to November 7, 2025, the airport will be closed to all civil aircraft for 12–13 days.
- Reason for Closing: The runway is being shut down for necessary maintenance and repairs. This entails putting in a brand-new, cutting-edge CAT-ILS-I (Instrument Landing System) and coating the runway with Polymer Modified Emulsion (PME). It is anticipated that this new technique will greatly enhance flying operations in low-visibility situations, such the dense winter fog.
- Effect on Flights: During this period, all commercial fixed-wing aircraft operations will be halted. Helicopters and other rotary wing aircraft will be the only ones permitted to fly, and only with prior authorisation.
- Travel Alert: Thousands of travellers per day are anticipated to be impacted by the shutdown. It is recommended that passengers enquire with their airlines about refunds or rebooking alternatives, possibly considering other airports like as Delhi or Amritsar.
