Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian’s Statements at Chanarthal Kalan Kabaddi Tournament
Fatehgarh Sahib, October 4:
Speaking as the main guest at the Kabaddi tournament during the Dussehra fair in the village of Chanarthal Kalan, Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said that sports are vital in the modern era because they can keep young people away from drugs.
Key Takeaways from the Minister’s Address
Sports and Drug-Free Punjab
The Minister underlined the success of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s “war against drugs” program, which aimed to rid the state of drugs.
‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’ (Punjab’s Homeland Games) is being used to link the youth and eradicate the drug problem from the state, he reported.
Agricultural Diversification and Animal Husbandry
S. Khuddian recalled that Punjabis have always been associated with animals and voiced profound sadness about the trend of livestock husbandry in villages diminishing.
He bemoaned how the villages are losing the custom of farmers keeping cows and buffaloes for milk, utilising pairs of oxen for farming, and enjoying horses.
He emphasised that raising animals is a business that allows farmers to make more money.
Noting that the Punjab government also offers substantial incentives for this effort, he asked the younger generation to follow the example set by their elders.
Other Announcements and Updates
S. Khuddian told reporters that the government is well aware of the Yellow Rust disease attack on the paddy crop and that the department is gathering information from all around Punjab.
He said that others should take inspiration from the people of Chanarthal Kalan, the biggest village in the Fatehgarh Sahib district, for their important role in conserving their culture.
He declared that the local Panchayat would receive ₹1 lakh to host the Kabaddi competition.
