Centre Approves ₹27.3 Crore for Two Incomplete Flyovers on Chandigarh-Ludhiana Highway

The Central Government has approved a proposal to complete two pending flyovers on the Chandigarh-Kharar-Ludhiana NH-05 highway at a cost of ₹27.3 crore.

These flyovers are part of a larger 76-km highway project that was completed in March 2020 at a cost of ₹2,100 crore. However, three small flyover sections were left incomplete due to land acquisition issues, causing frequent traffic jams and fatal accidents.

Recently, one of the missing flyovers — at Bhaini Sahib junction in Ludhiana — was completed and opened in January after demands raised by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora.

Now, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the construction of the remaining two flyovers at Khant Manpur and Jatana Uncha in Fatehgarh Sahib district. The approval came after a proposal was sent by the Regional Officer (Punjab and Haryana) and support from Congress MP Dr. Amar Singh, who had raised the issue with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari last month.

NHAI General Manager PN Gawasane confirmed the ₹27.3 crore approval, stating that the earlier delays were due to litigations over land. Those issues have now been resolved, and the required land has been handed over to NHAI, with demolition of structures nearly complete.

The de-scoped stretches total about 1.285 km. Officials say work on these flyovers will now begin soon and is expected to be completed by December.

This move is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve safety on the busy Chandigarh-Ludhiana corridor.
