On Wednesday, Central University of Punjab (CUP) opened its community radio station, “CU Punjab Radio 89.6 FM,” creating a powerful new platform for community development, empowerment, and education that would directly link the university with the general public.

In the special presence of AICTE Chairman Prof. T. G. Sitharam, the Honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari launched the Community Radio Station at the University Campus in Ghudda village, Bathinda district.

The nearby villages and communities will have access to relevant, educational, and motivational programming thanks to the Community Radio broadcast, which will be audible across a radius of around 10 kilometers. The station will transmit for four hours every day, Monday to Friday—from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Transforming Step Towards Social Awareness
This program is a revolutionary step toward inclusive education and societal consciousness, according to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari. He claimed that community radio is a medium that reaches those places where other media cannot, and it plays a significant role in promoting and developing education among the population. He further noted that this radio will substantially contribute to promoting awareness on societal concerns, including narcotics, corruption, and mental health, as well as informational preparation and awareness surrounding catastrophe management.

A Link Between Society and Knowledge
AICTE Chairman Prof. T. G. Sitharam hailed this significant communication platform developed by the University, noting that CU Punjab Radio will prove to be an efficient platform for enhancing the standard of living of the people of Bathinda district. He emphasized that this station is not merely a broadcasting medium but a bridge between knowledge and society, the voice of social responsibility, and a critical means of community empowerment, capable of transforming right information into inspiration and growth. Prof. Tiwari and Prof. Sitharam expressed optimism that the waves of CU Punjab Radio 89.6 FM will strongly promote education, empowerment, awareness, and public participation throughout the region.

According to Mr. Robin Jindal, Nodal Officer, and Dr. Rubal Kanojia, Director of CU Punjab Radio, this community radio would give people a free opportunity to express themselves, show off their skills, and talk about current social issues. Additionally, they stated that in addition to educational content, the radio will feature Punjabi culture, folk music, folk arts, inspirational tales, and community achievements.
