Fatehgarh Sahib, October 12:

Over the past three and a half years, the State Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, has successfully implemented a number of pro-people initiatives to ensure a health revolution in the state. This development campaign to strengthen health services is still going strong. At a state-level event held at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in the hamlet of Channarthal Kalan today, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh made this statement while formally commencing the Pulse Polio Round. Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh stated that under this three-day campaign, which will be run in 13 districts of the state, approximately 16 lakh children in the 0 to 5 years age group will be administered life-saving polio drops.

Although there hasn’t been a polio case in Punjab in 15 years, according to Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, the Punjab government has started the Pulse Polio campaign to protect children’s health because polio is common in neighboring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan. ‘Rangla Punjab’ (Vibrant Punjab) is Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ideal, he said, and it will only be realized if all children receive the vaccines they need to be protected from fatal diseases.

Speaking to the crowd, the Health Minister announced that, in the same way that 1000 new physicians have been hired to help the Health Department’s physician deficit, 500 nurses will be hired in November and another 500 in December, for a total of 1000 nurses. ‘In order to provide the people with high-quality healthcare around the clock,’ he added, ‘more physicians would soon be assigned to the CHC in Channarthal Kalan.’

Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh said that 107 types of free medicines and 47 types of free tests are being provided at the Aam Aadmi Clinics, which were opened with the aim of providing quality healthcare facilities to the people near their homes, offering great relief to the residents of the state.

The Health Minister announced that the Punjab Government is devising a comprehensive plan to provide ultrasound facilities to the people in villages. Under this scheme, vans will be run to provide free ultrasound tests to people by creating clusters of villages. He further stated that as another crucial step in the revolutionary decisions taken by the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in the fields of education and health, every family in the state will be provided a card for free treatment up to ₹10 lakh from December, which will enable people to avail free treatment in high-quality private and government hospitals.

The Cabinet Minister criticized the central BJP government for its stepmotherly treatment of Punjab, alleging its sole agenda is to create discord. He reminded us that the Gurus and Saints have given the message to end mutual enmity and help each other, based on which the Punjab Government has taken and successfully implemented historical decisions during its three and a half years.

Expressing deep concern over Punjabis being sent back in handcuffs from countries like America and Canada, the Health Minister called it an unfortunate incident on which opposition parties have not issued any statement. He assured that the Punjab Government will not let Punjabi youth go abroad but will provide them jobs within Punjab. He also mentioned that the Punjab Government has set a milestone by providing more than 55,000 government jobs in the last three and a half years.

On this occasion, MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai said that there has been a significant change and improvement in the government health institutions of the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, whereas previous governments had neglected the sectors of health and education. He said that the work that the previous governments could not do in the last 70 years has been accomplished by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann within three and a half years, and the remaining work will also be completed soon with the cooperation of the people. He stressed the importance of remaining vigilant against a deadly disease like polio and urged parents to ensure their children are administered the polio drops.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind emphasised the need for everyone’s cooperation for the complete eradication of polio.

Dr Aditi Salaria, Director (Family Welfare), Health Department, Punjab, informed that the World Health Organization declared the state polio-free in 1978, but the Pulse Polio campaign is carried out as a precaution due to the high prevalence of the disease in neighboring countries. She said that during the Pulse Polio campaign running from October 12 to 14, 7568 different teams of the Health Department will administer polio drops to children at the grassroots level.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Arvind Pal Singh shared the welcome address during the event, and at the end, State Immunization Officer Dr. Manju Bansal thanked the prominent personalities and dignitaries. Prominent personalities, including the Cabinet Minister, were also honored on this occasion. A street play was also performed by students to raise awareness among the public about protection from polio.

During this campaign, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh also visited a polio booth and administered polio drops to children.

SDM Arvind Gupta, Chief Minister Field Officer Shankar Sharma, Village Sarpanch Rajdeep Singh Tiwana, Hari Singh Tohra, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Sarita, along with other senior medical officers, officials of the Health Department, and villagers, were present on the occasion.
