Punjab BJP President Jakhar stopped by police in Fazilka: He intended to erect a camp, and the BJP will stage protests around the state today.
“The BJP has now begun to concentrate on both its weak rural areas and its cities in Punjab’s 2027 Vidhan Sabha elections. With the aid of eight of its programmes, the central government is attempting to expand its influence in the villages.
Police stopped BJP President Sunil Jakhar today while he was travelling to the village of Rai Raipur in the Fazilka district since he intended to travel to the camp there. He then began to sit on the road and protest there. Many BJP leaders have also arrived there with him, including former Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani.
The BJP is reportedly immediately registering people for the central government’s programmes on the official webpage. This has been contested by the Punjabi administration of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The state government claims that it is in charge of this activity and that there is a risk of data leaks from it.

People are asking how a political party may register new members. A number of BJP leaders have been arrested by police to be questioned. The BJP has declared their intention to re-establish camps. We’re not doing improperly. In 17 districts in Punjab, the BJP will stage semi-protests against the Punjab government today. Sunil Jakhar, the state president of the BJP, has stated that at the same location in Rai Raipur village of Fazilka district, where the police had detained the party officials for questioning, the party will once more erect a camp in support of the underprivileged today. According to the BJP president, he would visit this camp himself.
For the past five years, the BJP has been losing.
The gap between the Punjabi people and the BJP widened during the farmers’ uprising in 2020. The alliance disintegrated as the partnered party, the Akali Dal, also parted with the BJP. Both parties suffered defeats in the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections. The similar thing happened during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Despite being the third largest party with a vote share of 18.56 per cent, the BJP did not win any seats from Punjab in this election. The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party received 26.30 and 26 per cent of the vote, respectively. In contrast, the Akali Dal received one seat and 13.42 per cent of the vote.
