BJP Leader Gurdarshan Singh Saini from Dera Bassi Inaugurates the Chhinj (Wrestling) Fair at Fatehpur Jattan.


A sum of ₹31,000 was presented to the Fair Committee.

November 23, 2025, Dera Bassi: A traditional wrestling event called “Chhinj Mela” honoring Dhan Dhan’s 350th martyrdom day The Dera Bassi constituency’s ਪਿੰਡ of Fatehpur Jattan hosted the inauguration of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. Gurdarshan Singh Saini, a social worker and senior BJP leader from Dera Bassi, was the ਮੁੱਖ guest.

Harpreet Singh Tinku, Pushpinder Mehta, Sannat Bhardwaj, Davinder Dhanauni, Major Paragpur, Hardeep Singh, previous Sarpanch Balkar Singh, Suresh Vyas, and other dignitaries were present at the event with him.

Speaking to the locals at the fair, Gurdarshan Singh Saini stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party is actively promoting the state’s sports culture in order to shield ਪੰਜਾਬ’s young males from drug addiction. According to him, the BJP ਸਰਕਾਰ is constantly working to reduce drug use and engage young ਲੋਕ with sports culture.

He went on to say that these wrestling fairs provide young ਲੋਕ fresh perspectives. In light of the BJP ਸਰਕਾਰ’s growing efforts to encourage sports, he asked young ਲੋਕ to do the same. ਅੱਜ, wrestlers from several akhadas (wrestling arenas) showed up at the arena in the ਪਿੰਡ of Fatehpur Jattan. The wrestlers who took part received recognition.

Gurdarshan Singh, a BJP leader, praised the efforts made to organize sporting events in ਪੰਜਾਬ’s villages. Additionally, he commended the committee members and other organizers for their efforts. He gave the committee financial support in the amount of ₹31,000.

The wrestlers were also blessed on this occasion by Baba Raj Singh of Yadgar Gurdwara Sahib in the ਪਿੰਡ of Fatehpur Jattan. The ‘Chhinj Mela’ began with the sound of drums and nagaras (traditional Indian drums) in front of the committee members and villagers. The duration of this wrestling fair is three days.

The first prize money (for the main Jhandi tournament) has been fixed at ₹1 lakh, according to the information received. In a similar vein, ₹31,000 is the prize for the second Jhandi competition.
