BJP and AIADMK Form Formal Alliance Ahead of Tamil Nadu 2026 Elections

In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) officially announced their alliance ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the announcement on Friday during a press conference in Chennai, flanked by BJP leader K Annamalai and AIADMK’s Edappadi Palaniswami. Shah confirmed that the two parties, along with all their alliance partners, will contest the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Shah’s visit to Tamil Nadu on Thursday night followed growing discussions about the BJP’s new state unit president and the potential for an alliance in the state. The announcement comes after a period of strained relations between the BJP and AIADMK, signaling a thaw in their ties.

The alliance is seen as a strategic move by both parties as they aim to strengthen their presence in Tamil Nadu ahead of the crucial 2026 elections.
