Bikram Majithia’s House Raided by Vigilance Team; Phones, Laptops, Diaries Seized

Officers from the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, led by AIG Swarandeep Singh, raided the home of senior Akali leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar. The team seized 29 mobile phones, 4 laptops, 2 iPads, 8 diaries, and many documents during the operation. The raid was part of a wider crackdown, with raids also being carried out at 24 other locations across Punjab.

AIG Swarandeep Singh, who recently returned to duty after suspension, is part of the bureau’s Flying Squad in Mohali.

As the news of the raid spread, many Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders and supporters rushed to Majithia’s home. Slogans were raised against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of misusing state power to target opposition leaders. A heavy police presence and barricades were put in place to stop people from gathering at the site.

Majithia’s wife, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, said about 30 officers barged into their house without informing the family. “What is happening? How can you just enter our home like this?” she was heard asking the officers. Majithia also claimed that his children were “terrorised” by the sudden raid.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Majithia was seen confronting an officer, angry about how the raid was carried out. He accused the Bhagwant Mann-led government of using state agencies to silence political opponents.

Earlier this year, in March, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had said they found suspicious financial transactions in companies linked to Majithia and his family. The SIT was also looking into possible financial dealings abroad.

Majithia already faces a serious drug-related case filed under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, dating back to December 2021. That case was registered when the Congress government, under then CM Charanjit Singh Channi, was in power.

This latest action by the Vigilance Bureau seems to be an extension of investigations into Majithia’s finances and alleged illegal assets. The political storm surrounding the case continues to grow, with the Akali Dal accusing the AAP government of vendetta politics.
