AICC General Secretary in charge of Punjab Affairs, Bhupesh Baghel, will chair a meeting of district presidents and the Political Affairs Committee in Chandigarh tomorrow.
This is Baghel’s second visit to Punjab, and he is expected to address recent issues of indiscipline within the state Congress unit. The focus will likely be on the rallies held separately by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief at Sultanpur Lodhi and independent MLA Rana Inder Partap Singh — the son of senior Congress leader and MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh.
Ahead of the meeting, Campaign Committee chairman and former Punjab Assembly Speaker, Rana KP Singh, dismissed claims of factionalism in the party. He said there is space for healthy discussion within the Congress, and differences of opinion do not amount to breaking party discipline.
“The leadership knows how to balance discipline with freedom of expression. Not everyone has to agree with each other all the time, as long as no one crosses the line or challenges the party’s ideology,” Rana KP Singh said.
