Bharat Bhushan Ashu Targets Kejriwal in Ludhiana West Bypoll Campaign

Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu, the party’s candidate for the Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll, said on Sunday that his real fight is not against the AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora, but against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Ashu claimed that Kejriwal is trying to enter the Rajya Sabha from Punjab through the “backdoor” and AAP is using Arora to make that happen. Speaking at multiple meetings in the constituency, Ashu said Sanjeev Arora did not want to contest the election, but was forced by the party.

He added that Arora understands AAP’s weak position in Ludhiana West and is being “sacrificed” for Kejriwal’s ambitions.

Ashu, who is also Punjab Congress working president, criticized the AAP government for the recent hooch tragedy in Amritsar, where people died from drinking spurious liquor. He accused AAP of failing to control crime, saying that snatchings and ransom calls have become common and criminals are no longer afraid of the law.

The Ludhiana West seat became vacant after the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. The date for the bypoll has not yet been announced.
