The race for the Ludhiana West bypoll is heating up as Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) nominee Parupkar Singh Ghuman filed their nominations on Friday. The bypoll is scheduled for June 19.
A show of strength was visible as Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring stood beside Ashu after a long gap, signaling unity in the party. Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma was also present. Warring expressed full confidence in Ashu’s win and urged party workers to give their best effort, treating this as a personal battle.
Ashu, taking a jab at rivals, said, “Our president is with us. Now let AAP and BJP show where their state leaders are.”
On the other hand, SAD candidate Parupkar Singh Ghuman held a roadshow before filing his papers, joined by senior leaders Balwinder Singh Bhunder and Daljit Singh Cheema. Ghuman criticized the AAP government, saying, “In the last three years, Punjabis have seen AAP’s true face.”
