Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who lost the Ludhiana West bypoll to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sanjeev Arora by around 10,500 votes, said he accepts full responsibility for the defeat. Speaking to Principal Correspondent Shivani Bhakoo at his office, Ashu said every election brings important lessons.
“This was an important election. It taught me a lot. I have identified both my weaknesses and strengths, and I will work on them,” he said.
Ashu also made it clear that he has no personal differences with any Congress leader. He stressed the importance of continuing to serve the people, whether in power or not.
“In a healthy democracy, if you win, you have responsibilities. If you lose, you still have a responsibility—to play the role of a constructive opposition,” he said.
Ashu’s comments come at a time when the Punjab Congress is facing internal disagreements and resignations after the bypoll defeat.
