In honour of Lord Valmiki’s Prakat Diwas (Appearance Day), meat and alcohol are prohibited in Amritsar. The order was made in response to a number of organisations’ demands that the administration respect the religious feelings of the entire community by closing stores that sell meat, eggs, and alcohol during Prakat Diwas and the Shobha Yatra (Procession).
With the authority conferred by Sections 163 and 54(1) of the Punjab Excise Act 1914, as well as the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, Additional District Magistrate Rohit Gupta of Amritsar took into consideration the gravity of this demand and the occasion.

On October 6, meat stores and spirits vendors shuttered.
The administration has ordered that tomorrow, October 6, all liquor stores and stores that sell meat and eggs within 100 meters of the routes of the Shobha Yatra (Procession) that will be held in the Amritsar district on the occasion of Lord Valmiki Ji’s Prakat Diwas (Appearance Day) will stay closed.
