Punjab Congress Working President Bharat Bhushan Ashu launched a sharp attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, accusing him of undermining democracy by claiming that Ashu would be powerless as an Opposition MLA if elected.
Reacting to Kejriwal’s recent comments, Ashu said, “This proves AAP doesn’t believe in democracy. Warning people that their work won’t be done if I win shows their dictatorial mindset.” He said such statements are a sign of desperation and reflect the AAP’s fear of defeat.
Ashu added that Kejriwal appears more focused on targeting him personally than promoting his own party’s candidate. “He takes my name more than his own candidate’s. That shows how scared they are,” Ashu remarked during a public meeting, calling it an “admission of defeat.”
He accused AAP of trying to silence the Opposition and asserted that the ruling party was being run from Delhi. “When Kejriwal says I won’t be able to do anything, it only confirms that he’s the one controlling the Punjab government,” he said.
Ashu also alleged that former councillors were being threatened with FIRs to join AAP. “But voters know the truth. They’ll return to us, even before the results are declared on June 23,” he claimed.
Meanwhile, Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera, campaigning for Ashu, said the people of Punjab are fed up with AAP’s “politics of lies.” Without naming Kejriwal directly, Khera referred to him as a “poisonous snake” and urged voters in Ludhiana West to begin “eliminating the poison” on polling day.
“The people of Punjab are paying the price for AAP’s failures in Delhi. The Chief Minister has handed over Punjab’s pride to Delhi’s leadership,” Khera added.
Both leaders expressed strong confidence that the Ludhiana West bypoll would mark the beginning of the end for AAP in Punjab.
