Army Demands Strict Action Against Punjab Police Personnel in Assault Case

The Army has called for exemplary and time-bound action against several Punjab Police personnel accused of assaulting Army Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath in Patiala on March 13. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav assured that the responsible officers would face stern consequences.

Colonel Bath, who serves at the Cabinet Secretariat in New Delhi, alleges that 12 police officers attacked him and his son over a parking dispute during the night of March 13-14. He has filed a police complaint, which was officially registered on March 22, and has sought the transfer of the case to the CBI by approaching the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

At a joint press conference with DGP Yadav, Western Command Chief of Staff Lt Gen Mohit Wadhwa emphasized the need for a “fair and transparent investigation” to ensure justice. He stressed that the accused should be punished promptly and exemplarily to prevent the incident from damaging the relationship between the civil administration and both serving and retired Army personnel.

Lt Gen Wadhwa further clarified that the Army was informed about the incident on March 15 and raised the issue with the Punjab administration and police to ensure swift action. “We remain committed to seeing this case through to its logical conclusion,” he said.

DGP Yadav added that any officer involved in the assault would face serious legal repercussions. He confirmed that the accused police personnel have been suspended, and departmental action, including the possibility of a major penalty, is underway.

Both Lt Gen Wadhwa and DGP Yadav cautioned against allowing this incident to be exploited by harmful elements seeking to create discord. They underscored the importance of continued coordination between the Army and police for national security.
