Amit Shah to Chair 25th Central Zonal Council Meeting in Varanasi on Tuesday

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 25th meeting of the Central Zonal Council on Tuesday in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The meeting will bring together the Chief Ministers of the four member states — Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh — along with two senior ministers from each state.

The event is being organised by the Inter-State Council Secretariat under the Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Alongside state leaders, Chief Secretaries and senior officials from both the Centre and the states will participate in the meeting. The Central Zonal Council is one of the five regional Zonal Councils in India, aimed at fostering cooperation and coordination between states and the Central Government.

Amit Shah, as Union Home Minister, chairs all five Zonal Councils. Each council also includes the Chief Ministers, Governors’ nominated ministers, and Lieutenant Governors or Administrators of member states and Union Territories. The vice-chairperson role is held by a Chief Minister from one of the member states, rotated annually.

The issues to be discussed are first reviewed by the council’s permanent committee, and unresolved matters are brought forward during the full Zonal Council meeting for deeper discussion.

The meeting is expected to focus on inter-state cooperation, border issues, security concerns, and infrastructure development, among other key topics relevant to the Central Indian region.
