Amit Shah Pays Tribute to Pahalgam Terror Victims; J&K Govt Announces Rs 10 Lakh Ex-Gratia

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday paid tribute to the 26 people who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The victims were mostly tourists. Shah laid wreaths on their coffins at the Police Control Room in Srinagar. He also met with the victims’ families and survivors of the attack.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also paid their respects. Shah promised that the attackers would be caught and punished, saying that the security forces will leave no stone unturned.

After arriving in Srinagar soon after the attack, Amit Shah was briefed on the situation by the Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat. He later chaired a high-level security meeting with the Lieutenant Governor and other officials to review the situation.

The victims’ bodies were first brought to the Government Medical College in Srinagar before being moved to the Police Control Room. The government has ensured that the mortal remains will be transported to the victims’ hometowns with full respect.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced financial help for the affected families. Each family of the deceased will receive Rs 10 lakh as ex-gratia. Those seriously injured will get Rs 2 lakh, and those with minor injuries will get Rs 1 lakh.

Abdullah expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “This barbaric act has no place in our society. We mourn with the families and stand with them in this difficult time. Terror will never break our spirit.”

He also assured that the injured are receiving the best possible medical care.
