The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday dismissed a petition that questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship, advising the petitioner to seek other legal options.
The court said there was no reason to keep the case pending, as the Central Government could not provide a timeline to resolve the issue. The petition was filed by BJP worker S Vignesh Shishir from Karnataka.
Shishir had claimed to possess documents and emails from the British government allegedly proving that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen, making him ineligible to contest Indian elections or serve as a Lok Sabha member.
The court stated that the petitioner is free to explore alternative legal remedies. In an earlier hearing, it was revealed that the Centre had contacted the UK government for clarification on Gandhi’s citizenship status.
