Agriculture Department Ran an Awareness Campaign on Stubble Management in Khera and Bora Villages – Chief Agriculture Officer

Fatehgarh Sahib, 24 September:

To educate farmers about managing paddy stubble, Dr Gurnam Singh, the Chief Agriculture Officer, accompanied by representatives and employees from the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, travelled to the villages of Khera and Bora in Khera block under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind.

According to Dr. Gurnam Singh, there were some reports of paddy stubble fire in these villages the previous year. In light of this, a group of specialists gave the farmers in these villages detailed advice on how to prevent stubble from burning. He explained to the farmers that although burning stubble destroys the nutrients in the soil, integrating it into the ground results in less fertiliser being used, which decreases costs and boosts profits.

The Chief Agriculture Officer went on to say that adding stubble to the soil boosts crop productivity. He clarified that wheat can be planted using a Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Surface Seeder, or Smart Seeder by connecting an SMS system behind the combine harvester. For effective stubble management, he urged farmers to utilise agricultural equipment to its fullest potential.

“The Punjab government’s subsidised agricultural machinery for effective stubble management helps eliminate the pollution that burning stubble causes to the environment, in addition to increasing soil fertility by ploughing the stubble into the field,” he said.

The village farmers promised that stubble management would be maintained and that no one would burn stubble. This time, the farmers were also given information on how to properly manage their stubble.

Deputy Project Director Harmanjit Singh, Khera’s Agriculture Development Officer Ravinder Kaur, and Assistant Technical Managers Gagandeep Singh and Rajvir Singh were in attendance.
