“Abuse in Chandigarh Corporation Meeting: Women Walk Out; Clashes Between Former Mayor Tita and Councillor Sonkar; Issue of Unclaimed Bodies Raised.”
There was tension at the beginning of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation’s 352nd meeting. There was a ruckus as the mayor and officials were cornered on a number of problems by the AAP and Congress.
Mayor Kuldeep Kumar Tita claimed during the meeting that the SC community’s opinions were being disregarded and not heard. Manoj Sonkar, a BJP councillor, reacted after hearing this.
A heated argument between the two swiftly descended into verbal abuse. The insults came from Manoj Sonkar, a BJP councillor.
A number of women fled the meeting amid the commotion in the house. Harpreet Kaur Babla, the mayor, remained silent on the matter. Congress councillor Gurpreet brought up the topic of hiring staff without a tender during the meeting, which also created a stir. Due to accusations of corruption, the opposition was getting ready to attack the mayor.
Important topics like road maintenance, solid waste disposal, parking management, and cleanliness were also discussed. After taking into account a number of suggestions, a choice will be made in front of the designated councillors and authorities. Additionally, the opposition used slogans to protest the municipal corporation’s transfer of the V3 Road to the administration. But it passed because there were more votes in favor of it. The municipal corporation meeting for today is over.

Claims of rescuing a dishonest junior engineer
BJP councillor Saurabh Joshi questioned why only one organization was awarded a contract during the meeting. “You are coming here and doing a good job,” he stated. The Joint Commissioner was asked by Saurabh Joshi why his department was halting this operation. He said that it had to do with religious convictions. “A junior engineer who is corrupt is still in the same position, and efforts are being made to save him,” he stated.
The bribery matter was brought up.
Senior Deputy Mayor Jasvir Bandi stated during the Municipal Corporation meeting that Vikas, a Municipal Corporation employee, had claimed a few days prior that authorities were collecting 6 lakh in monthly installments. In this instance, nothing was done—just a transfer was made.
Councillor Premlata claimed during the ruckus that Sarabjit Kaur, the former mayor of the BJP, was lying and that the BJP was responsible for all of the city’s development projects.
The cremation of unclaimed bodies was brought up.
Senior Deputy Mayor Jasvir Bandi stated during the Municipal Corporation meeting that he had asked the Municipal Corporation how many unclaimed bodies had been cremated to date in order to get an answer. The response was that they don’t maintain any records and that the municipal corporation receives ₹3.5 lakh to cover these costs.
