The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly opposed the statements made by BJP leader Manjinder Sirsa, who spoke in support of gangsters accused of killing cloth merchant Sanjay Verma in Abohar.
AAP held large protests in cities like Jalandhar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Abohar. The party said that its ministers, MLAs, and senior leaders all took part in the demonstrations.
In a press release, AAP accused the BJP of working against the law and against the ਲੋਕ of ਪੰਜਾਬ. They said gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was being protected by the BJP-led central ਸਰਕਾਰ.
AAP said, “The BJP says there is no law and order in ਪੰਜਾਬ, but when our ਸਰਕਾਰ takes strong action against gangsters, BJP leaders defend them. This double standard will not be accepted.”
The party also said that the Bhagwant Mann-led ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ is taking serious steps to remove gangsters from the state, and that any interference by the central ਸਰਕਾਰ will not be allowed. AAP also claimed that BJP, Congress, and Akali Dal are losing support in ਪੰਜਾਬ and are now targeting AAP because of that.
