The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly opposed the statements made by BJP leader Manjinder Sirsa, who spoke in support of gangsters accused of killing cloth merchant Sanjay Verma in Abohar.
AAP held large protests in cities like Jalandhar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Abohar. The party said that its ministers, MLAs, and senior leaders all took part in the demonstrations.
In a press release, AAP accused the BJP of working against the law and against the people of Punjab. They said gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was being protected by the BJP-led central government.
AAP said, “The BJP says there is no law and order in Punjab, but when our government takes strong action against gangsters, BJP leaders defend them. This double standard will not be accepted.”
The party also said that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government is taking serious steps to remove gangsters from the state, and that any interference by the central government will not be allowed. AAP also claimed that BJP, Congress, and Akali Dal are losing support in Punjab and are now targeting AAP because of that.
