A Novel Approach to Combating Litterers in Chandigarh.
Today, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation launched a novel initiative to educate those who trash in public areas throughout the city. A drum will now be beaten at the door to remind anyone caught littering of the consequences. Litterers will also receive challans (fines) in addition to verification by the Area Inspector.
Residents have been asked to share pictures of trash on the Municipal Corporation app in order to keep the city tidy.
A loud, public “honor” was given to two families in Mani Majra on Monday when Chandigarh Municipal Corporation members appeared outside their homes with drums and bugles. This was not a celebration; rather, the goal was to give each family a ₹13,401 challan and return the rubbish they had left in a public space.
