Starting April 1, the UT Sports Department will reopen all 12 swimming pools in the city, catering to both professional and recreational swimmers. A membership drive will follow shortly, with officials expected to be deployed at these facilities.
An official meeting is set for this week, where the posting of staff will be announced. The UT Sports Department is the sole government body managing these pools, and while only one was operational during the winter, all will be functional for the upcoming summer season. To enhance operations, the department plans to hire additional staff, with the recruitment of new coaches nearly complete.
Last year, around 20 officials were designated to oversee these centers, which are located at various sites including the Lake Sports Complex, Sector 23, Mani Majra complex, and Sectors 8, 27, 34, 38, 39, 43, 50, and 56. “All pools will be open early next month, and the process for managing these centers and necessary purchases has already begun,” stated Sorabh Kumar Arora, Director of Sports.
The pools will maintain the same operating hours as last year, with recreational swimmers typically outnumbering professionals. Although the pools are open for six hours, the department has faced requests for extended hours from users. Preparations to fill the pools are underway, following their closure during the winter months.
