PRTC-PUNBUS Strike in Punjab Not Over Yet—Read the Update.
For travelers using Punjab’s government buses, there has been a significant upgrade. The PRTC and PUNBUS unions have said unequivocally that their strike is ongoing and that they would not give up.
The unions have said that workers won’t go back to work unless the government reinstates their suspended and fired leaders, frees their detained coworkers, and drops the charges against them.
Bus Standstill Will Only End Once Requirements Are Fulfilled
Union leaders claim that their colleagues have been treated unfairly by the administration. They make it plain that they want the leaders who were detained by the police to be released right away, and they want the workers who were fired to be given their jobs back. Until these requirements are satisfied, the bus services (Chakka Jaam) will continue to be suspended.
Has the Minister’s Claim Been Disproven?
This announcement was made barely one day after Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that the strike was resolved due to an agreement struck with the unions. He had declared that the bus service had resumed and that the suspended personnel would be reinstated. But it is evident from the unions’ most recent position that the employees are adamant about their demands and that the impasse still exists.
