Liquor and Meat Shops to Remain Closed for 3 Days.
November 20, 2025: In anticipation of the major Nagar Kirtan (religious parade) held in honor of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s 350th Martyrdom Day, the Punjab government has implemented stringent safeguards.
A “Dry Day” has been declared by the district administrations of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, and Ferozepur during the dates of November 20–22. In order to respect the religious feelings of the devotees, officials have ordered that stores selling alcohol, meat, eggs, and tobacco remain closed along the Nagar Kirtan path.
Limitations on Gurdaspur Hotels and Clubs
On November 20, the Gurdaspur district magistrate issued a total prohibition inside the district boundaries. The regulations state that all foreign and domestic liquor vendors, as well as the pouring of alcohol in hotels and clubs with a license, will be banned along the Nagar Kirtan path. On November 20, this Nagar Kirtan will begin at Gurdwara Sangatsar, go through the city, and then take the Batala and Jalandhar highways to Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Amritsar Shops Will Be Closed for Two Days
In the meantime, orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 have been issued in Amritsar by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rohit Gupta. As a result, on November 20 and 21, when the Nagar Kirtan arrives in the district from Gurdaspur via Mehta Chowk, all liquor stores, paan-beedi shops, and egg/meat businesses on either side of that road will be shut down.
Additionally, orders were issued in Ferozepur and Tarn Taran.
In a similar vein, on November 21, Tarn Taran DM Rahul (IAS) and on November 20, Ferozepur DM Deepshikha Sharma issued severe compliance orders for the Nagar Kirtan trek within their respective district boundaries. There have also been instructions to keep meat and alcohol stores closed in some areas. The administration has threatened to take severe legal action against anyone who disobeys the directives.
