Dispute over Mohalla Clinic in Ludhiana: People say, ‘No permission taken, work being done with police force’; AAP leader says, ‘Only one house is troubled.’

In Ludhiana, the Mohalla Clinic model of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is under fire once more. This time, the issue comes from the affluent Kitchenu Nagar neighbourhood of Ludhiana, where locals and AAP leaders are at odds over the building of a Mohalla Clinic.

For the last six to seven days, the residents of Kitchenu Nagar claim that the AAP leaders have been building the Mohalla Clinic there under duress. The fact that the clinic is being built on the main road, which will result in traffic congestion, makes it obvious that the location is inappropriate.

People are worried that there will be a major parking issue if staff and patients’ cars are parked in front of their homes. They claimed that no neighbourhood residents were consulted or granted permission to construct the Mohalla Clinic.

Kitchenu Nagar Becomes a Police Cantonment
The neighbourhood’s residents made a big commotion on Monday to protest the construction. The situation got so bad that it was necessary to immediately deploy a large number of police officers. The locals referred to this as “government coercion” since the work could only proceed under police supervision.

Sunny Bhalla, a counsellor, raised questions.
Sunny Bhalla, a local counsellor, arrived on the scene and offered support for the neighbourhood women’s grievances. “We were constantly getting complaints that people didn’t want a Mohalla Clinic here,” he stated. We told the cops, but this labour is being forced upon us by the Aam Aadmi Party.”

Bhalla made a serious accusation against the government, claiming that the Aam Aadmi Party intends to use compulsion and police force to construct the Mohalla Clinic here. “Crime is not being controlled, but the government is misusing police force for small tasks,” he stated.Only One House Is Troubled, AAP Leader Bittu Khullar Said
However, AAP leader Bittu Khullar downplayed the conflict when questioned about it. He said that only one home is experiencing issues with the Mohalla Clinic’s construction.
