Students’ Protest at Punjab University (PU)

Students marched out of the hostel, raising slogans against the BJP; Chandigarh Police set up 12 checkpoints, and 2,000 personnel were deployed.

The students’ demonstration has been going on since Sunday night, despite the Central Government withdrawing its announcement about the Punjab University Senate and Syndicate. Late into the night, students were occupying a dharna (sit-in) at the campus entrance.

They currently want the dates of the elections to select all 91 members of the Students’ Senate to be made public. They claim that until the election dates are revealed, the dharna and protest will go on.

Early in the morning, the students began to assemble. The cops also strengthened security measures after realizing this. Previously, 1200 employees, 18 inspectors, and 6 DSPs were deployed. They now number 2000.

Every road that leads to Chandigarh is closely monitored by police. There are now twelve checkpoints, or nakas. Students who are employed at the institution are not permitted access unless they present identification. Some students and police officers got into conflicts as a result.

Simultaneously, student leaders at universities have urged people to begin their protest calmly by sitting down wherever the police halt them. Additionally, they have requested that people post their reels and movies on social media.
