3 electricity employees caught taking a bribe in Ludhiana; had taken ₹60,000 for an illegal connection; Lineman and Nodal employee were also involved.
Three Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) outsourced workers have been detained by the Salem Tabri Police in Ludhiana, Punjab, on suspicion of accepting a ₹60,000 bribe in exchange for an illicit power connection.
Two private linemen are among those detained. To determine how many persons these accused have accepted bribes from, the police are still looking into this case. Nodal employee Sanjeev Basti and private linemen Sandeep Kumar and Gurwinder Singh have been named as the culprits.
The accusation is that they relocated a high-tension 11 KV feeder line in Gurnam Nagar to a nearby space to facilitate an illegal electricity connection for a workshop there. According to the police, the three took a bribe of ₹60,000 to tamper with the line, which provided the shop with an electricity connection that the department had officially denied.
Filed a FIR Based on Sub Divisional Officer’s Complaint According to Investigating Officer Manoj Kumar, a case has been filed against the accused under Sections 316(5), 318(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint of Sub Divisional Officer Shiv Kumar of the Electricity Department.
He claimed that Bharat, a carpenter who has a workshop in Gurnam Nagar, was involved in the anomaly. Because the 11 KV lines were directly over his shop and an authorised channel was needed for the relocation, Bharat’s application for an industrial power connection under the City West Division was turned down.
Nevertheless, the accused again got in touch with Bharat following this denial and offered to set up the link for ₹60,000.
