Fatehgarh Sahib, October 28:

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, launched the “War Against Drugs” campaign to eradicate drugs. The Rural Defence Committees, the Police, and the Administration are working hard to carry out this campaign on the ground, and everyone can see the significant results. Baltej Pannu, Chief Spokesperson of the Anti-Drug Front (Nasha Mukti Morcha), made this statement today while attending the Anti-Drug Front’s district-level meeting at Bachat Bhawan. Attending the meeting were Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind, SSP Shubham Aggarwal, Nasha Mukti Morcha Malwa Zone Coordinator Sukhjit Singh Dhillwan, and District Coordinator Onkar Singh Chauhan.

According to Chief Spokesperson Baltej Pannu, the Rural Defence Committees’ active volunteers will receive identity cards and a mobile app as part of the campaign’s second phase. With the use of this app, individuals will be able to safely exchange private information on drug traffickers, which will result in the total eradication of drugs from the villages. He clarified that the police will act against drug dealers in a short amount of time after receiving sensitive information via the mobile app. He said that nearly every hamlet in the Fatehgarh Sahib district has been able to regulate drug use and that the first phase of the “War Against Drugs” campaign has been effectively finished.  The members of the Rural Defence Committees, he continued, are serving as the campaign’s solid base. In order to carry out the campaign in a more robust and organised way, these proactive members will receive training on how to use the mobile app effectively. He praised the District Police, saying they have played a major role in removing drugs from regions that were once thought to be drug hotspots.

The Nasha Mukti Morcha’s Malwa Zonal Coordinator, Sukhjit Singh Dhillwan, stated that it is admirable that committee members are providing specific information to the police in order to apprehend drug dealers. He said that we should be thankful to God that a service to humanity is being carried out through this campaign to make society drug-free, as drug sufferers are being cured and empowered with self-employment. He told us that in order to get more significant outcomes from the campaign, a special training session for the Rural Defence Committees will soon be held in the Fatehgarh Sahib district.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind stated during the meeting that significant efforts are underway to develop the Brahmanmajra De-addiction Centre as a model centre and that the district is effectively implementing the Punjab Government’s directives. She declared that the Administration and the Police are dedicated to working together to eradicate drugs.

This time, SSP Shubham Aggarwal reported that the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign has resulted in the arrest and imprisonment of over 1000 drug traffickers, the registration of over 210 police cases, and the demolition of multiple illegal buildings constructed with proceeds from the illicit drug trade. Concrete measures have also been implemented for the rehabilitation of drug victims following their recovery, he continued.

The Anti-Drug Front teams are working at the district, assembly constituency, block, village, and ward levels, according to Onkar Singh Chauhan, District Coordinator of the Nasha Mukti Morcha. He stated that unity is the best way to eradicate the drug problem. He urged everyone to put aside party politics in favour of this admirable cause and fully carry out their obligation to serve society.

The meeting was attended by ADC Surinder Singh Dhaliwal, SP Rakesh Yadav, all Sub-Divisional Magistrates, all SPs and DSPs, and Nasha Mukti Morcha office bearers.
