Kangana Ranaut Will Appear in Bathinda Court Today: Hearing in the Case Regarding Comments Made on an Elderly Woman; Appearance to be After 2 PM.
The Bathinda Court is holding a hearing today about Kangana Ranaut’s remark regarding an elderly woman. Her social media posting against Bathinda resident Mahinder Kaur, 87, is connected to the Farmers’ Protest of 2021.
The woman, she said, was like the ‘Dadi Bilkis Bano’ of the Shaheen Bagh protest, and “these people come for ₹100-₹100.” She had also filed an application for appearance via video conferencing, which the court rejected. Now, the court has ordered Kangana to appear personally on October 27.
Current Hearing Status
Kangana Ranaut has been directed by the Bathinda court to make an in-person appearance on October 27.
A video conference appearance request made by Kangana’s attorney was denied by the court.
Strictly, the court stated that an arrest warrant may be issued if she doesn’t show up for any more appearances.
She made a separate remark on the well-known old lady instead of retweeting. Kangana must now appear in court today to provide her explanation because the case is before the Trial Court.
The Old Controversy: What is it?
This issue relates to the Farmers’ Protest of 2020–21, where Kangana Ranaut posted a picture of Mahinder Kaur, an elderly farmer, on Twitter and left a comment (now X).
Mahinder Kaur was likened by Kangana to the “Dadi” of the Shaheen Bagh demonstration, and she tweeted that “these people are available for ₹100.”
After this remark, Mahinder Kaur filed a defamation lawsuit in the Bathinda Court, claiming that it had harmed her reputation.
The Punjab-Haryana High Court denied Kangana’s request to have the lawsuit dismissed, and the Supreme Court also did not provide her any relief.
