Special Honor Ceremony for Jathedar Gagan Singh at Kesgarh Sahib: Turban-Tying Ceremony Performed Again According to Panthic Rituals; Nihang Groups Give Up 8 Months of Displeasure.
Former Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh is giving Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gaggan Singh a turban during the special honor ceremony held at Kesgarh Sahib.
Today (Saturday), the issue surrounding the appointment of Giani Kuldeep Singh Gaggan Singh as the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Jathedar of Sri Kesgarh Sahib has come to an end.
The turban-tying (Dastarbandi) ceremony of Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gaggan Singh was carried out once more today in accordance with Panthic customs and rites. Former Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and Nihang Jathedars gave Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gaggan Singh a turban at Kesgarh Sahib as a sign of respect.
Today marked the conclusion of the conflict, which had been going on from the Sikh organizations’ end for almost eight months.
He urged the Sikh organizations to band together and operate under Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s auspices. Concerns about the religious conversions occurring in Punjab were also voiced by him. He also conveyed his sorrow at the situation of a husband and wife in Moga who sell their own child for drugs.
It is important to note that on March 10, the SGPC tied Jathedar Gaggan Singh’s turban (Dastarbandi) without the Sangat, Guru Panth, or Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji present, which infuriated a number of Panthic Jathedars and sects. Changes in Equations Due to Political Pressure
It is alleged
In order to bolster his waning hold on the Panth, Sukhbir Singh Badal, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), reportedly surreptitiously installed Gaggan Singh as Jathedar on March 10 at midnight.

Sukhbir Badal, however, stepped in when there was resistance to this, met with notable Sikh Jathedars and sects, and urged them to agree to Gaggan Singh’s nomination. The coronation ritual (turban-tying/re-appointment) is being held again for this reason.
That political pressure forced former Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami to approve Gaggan Singh’s nomination. Politics’ Significant Effect on the Panth
After Giani Harpreet Singh joined the ‘Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjit’ (Resurrected Shiromani Akali Dal), there was a rise in discontent with the Akali Dal (Badal), according to experts. To ensure that his faction’s dominance continues in the next SGPC session, Sukhbir Badal is currently attempting to re-establish contact with all Sikh Jathedars. For the first time in history, this occurred.
For the first time, the Sangat (congregation) is being required to show reverence for a Jathedar who was appointed by the SGPC when he is repeatedly crowned (or reappointed). In Panthic circles, this is referred to as disgraceful for Panthic traditions. According to Panthic specialists, the SGPC is now dominated by politics, which is why the entire incident is becoming public.
